From Brad, N7IVV, FARA President:
As the world-wide COVID-19 situation continues to be unstable and potentially dangerous, I have decided that the Fauquier Amateur Radio Association will NOT hold our usual, “conventional” Field Day activity this year.
I encourage all members to participate in Field Day 2020 on an individual basis, however. There are a number of ways that individuals can operate under the official classifications defined by the ARRL for the contest portion of the activity if desired. However, Field Day is not just about contesting. We can all use this year’s event as an opportunity to learn and/or practice techniques for portable operations, or operations in emergency or degraded conditions.
In the coming weeks, we will dedicate some of our weekly VHF nets to discussions related to this subject, and will also include a presentation during our on-line club meeting on 11 June with ideas and recommendations for solo participation.
Above all, have FUN during the weekend making lots of contacts! There will likely be many more individual stations on the air rather than a smaller number of clubs.
